Does Rip Hunter Become Good Again
And so far the Legends' adventures take taken them all over the time stream, but this evening'south 60 minutes sees them explore sometime sometime and someplace new, as part of the squad splits upwards and ventures out into the Cretaceous Menstruum, where they're trapped, while a smaller group ventures into new territory: Rip Hunter's mind.
Of course, that inspired suggestion comes from none other than Mick Rory himself, who brings up "cognitive intrusion" afterwards Rip Hunter, who is evil as e'er, manages to override the ship and brand himself the Captain over again, with a little help from Gideon, of course. Though the blame is very much on the Legends for leaving a former Time Main by his captive lonesome. I hateful, really?
Luckily, Mick is able to stop him with a single dial — much similar near things in his life. But that withal leaves the matter of the send, which Rip set to self-destruct. Thankfully, Jax is able to forbid it by rebooting the ship (and Gideon), but doing that causes them to crash in time once once again. Merely this time — ha! Fourth dimension pun! — the Waverider returns to the Cretaceous catamenia and manages to take out several trees in the process. R.I.P. nature.
(Fun side notation: Can we talk about how bad Mick's piloting must be that Stein thinks that their SUPER turbulent crash was his handiwork?)
With the ship Jurassic Cretaceous parked, and three team members off on a carve up mission, Sara decides to utilise Mick's "cerebral intrusion" method to dive into Rip's mind and observe out the location of the adjacent piece of the Spear of Destiny.
After a little bickering, it'due south decided that Sara (the current captain) and Jax (who is grateful that Rip believed in him enough to make him chief engineer) will be diving into Rip'southward mind. Nonetheless, they're armed with buttons that will allow them to "daze" their way out and warned to stay in in that location for only an hour. Not that that will be an issue. Sara and Jax speedily learn that the reason Rip is and then anti-Squad Legends is because Thawne messed with his mind a la President Snowfall, so at present Peeta Rip thinks his friends are evil.
However, as awful as this is for Rip, information technology's great for viewers, who get to see Sara face off against Rip's mental version of herself. It's a closely combatted competition, with the existent Sara only barely emerging victorious — especially considering they take nigh exactly the same moves, which, kind of kudos to Rip's mind for knowing how his teammate would fight.
Unfortunately, Sara and Jax get separated. She winds up with the existent Rip Hunter, who is nevertheless in there, and he ends upwardly with a woman who ends upwards beingness Gideon herself. (Dun. Dun. DUN!!!) While Jax and Gideon go in search of Sara and Rip, the latter two discover that Rip can bear on things… in his own mind. (While this may have been a footling obvious to us, information technology's a completely new concept for Rip, who's losing the ability to tell the true from the faux.)
Thankfully, Jax and Gideon arrive to allow Sara and Rip out of his mental prison… and give Sara the chance to get her flirt on with Gideon despite the fact that she's a figment of Rip's mind. Bless y'all Sara. Never change.
But their escape is foiled past the arrival of Rip's mental versions of the Legends, which Sara and Jax do fight off, simply for them to come back. This finally prompts Rip to apply his mind to become rid of them, thus proving that the real Legend of Tomorrow was within us the whole time.
With moments to spare, Jax gets out and manages to daze Sara out. Dorsum in Rip's heed, everything's falling apart (talk nearly a metaphor brought to life). In the midst of all that destruction, the former Fourth dimension Master thanks Gideon and they KISS. With that, Rip wakes upward.
Later, Sara checks on Rip and we get some light humor about how they both think they're the captain. When she leaves, Rip apologizes to Gideon, who, it turns out, remembers their kiss?! (To this, I ask, "REAL OR Non Real?!") Not that nosotros dwell on this little plot twist for long. Instead, nosotros see Rip reunite with his old teammates — Mick, of course, prefers Rip'due south more than kill-happy persona — and introduce himself to the new.
While the rest of the team is decorated digging into the darkest recesses of Rip's brainwashed mind, Ray, Nate, and Amaya revisit some of Ray's old haunts from when he was trapped hither last.
In the procedure nosotros learn that he not simply named a dinosaur (Gertrude a.thou.a. "Gertie"), but that Ray stole ane of her eggs to make "70 omelets." Also he has no regrets almost that whole endeavor.
Other fun facts include the fact that Tyrannosaurus rexes are very maternal and that Ray crafted himself some miniatures of the Legend gang to keep him company. Not to mention the fact that he knows how to brand iguana soup and procure T-rex urine. Unlike Amaya, I take and then many questions near this.
But while Ray is enthusiastically revisiting his time in this period, Nate and Amaya are once again picking the worst fourth dimension to rekindle their romantic potential. (Really though, what is it about inappropriate historical fourth dimension periods that really gets these kids going?) Before they can practice anything in Ray's former camp structure, Ray manages to interrupt them.
Afterward, when Amaya is away, Ray takes the opportunity to tell Nate that hooking up with her would be a terrible thought. He points out that Amaya actually matters to the timeline and that their hook-up could threaten Mari'south being and Amaya'due south family'southward destiny, as she has to return and have a daughter.
The next morn, the trio find the missing delineator — only it's in the middle of a T-male monarch nest. Even though Ray does manage to get it, they are still beset by an angry Gertie. But while it seems like Nate is well-nigh to get all metal on her ginormous dino butt, information technology's actually Amaya who steps forward, uses her amulet, and makes my dreams come truthful by talking to the dinosaur. Afterwards their little "adult female to woman" chat, Gertie goes off, and I'thousand left grinning similar a fool.
Back on the send, Ray puts the delineator dorsum in while Amaya and Nate keep to flirt. She goes off and promises him "something else to retrieve nigh" if he joins her that nighttime. Following that, Ray apologizes to Nate, pointing out that both teammates are adults who can decide whether they desire to keep things casual or not and that it'south not his concern. Only, Nate says he'southward not going to take Amaya upwards on her offering considering he's realized that he can't proceed things casual — not after seeing her put on "one of the biggest displays of badassery always." Agreed. Ray empathizes and goes off. But as we come across, Nate decides that he can start keeping it casual starting "tomorrow."
Elsewhere in the episode, Mick, in the middle of one of his many beers, tells Stein that he needs to start viewing Jax equally his partner, even though he'due south a kid. He adds that Stein is erstwhile, and Jax needs to learn how to exercise things for himself. Taking that lesson to heart, Stein finds his partner at the end of the episode and tells him as much. He acknowledges how smart and formidable Jax is and says he needs to recall that more.
(Minor item, but I want to note that next week's promo reveals Eobard Thawne at NASA in 1970 and potentially messing with Apollo 13, thus giving u.s. another time travel show referencing Subconscious Figures.)
